The Yam Market at Akosombo currently occurs within the Port, pending equipment availability and rehabilitation of the traditional site. Yam transport on the lake provides many jobs for Rural Ghanaians and is essential to the rural economy of the Volta Basin. Buying a Yam today could be your way of supporting a rural child in school, boosting the rural economy and helping those you have never met. We all need to consider our food choices and realise that buying imported foodstuffs actually damages our rural economy and the future of our children. Just think, when you eat locally produced food you are building the future of Ghana. Photo Courtesy of Medicine on the Move http://www.medicineonthemove.org/
